Hi --
They say I live a fast life. Maybe I just like a fast life of driving my Sting Ray and XKE, playing my drums, and meeting so many girls and guys (especially girls). I wouldn't give up this life for anything in the world. It won't last forever, either, but the memories will. Thank you for writing so many great letters. I hope I can answer them soon.
I'll see you in you town
DENNIS WILSON
People ask me sometimes how I come up with my ideas. Sometimes I don't know. The feelings you get from going to school, being in love, winning and losing in sports - these are my inspirations. A sociologist might say I am trying to generate a feeling of social superiority. I live with my piano and aI love to make records that my friends like to hear. The fellas have worked so well with me - you'd never know we were brothers and cousins. Thank youe for giving me the incentive to create our records.
Sincerely,
BRIAN WILSON
It's been a while now, but it seems like we just started out yesterday. I still get that overwhelming feeling when we're announced to come on stage. And a fantastic ovation - you could never know how much we appreciate them.
To Mom and Dad; Brian, Dennis and you: I hope you are proud of us. You knhow we owe so much to you.
Always,
CARL WILSON
They've given me this small space to express something a guy could write a book about. There are a thousand memories. Like being on stage in our own state capital, Sacramento, California, and seeing so many happy swingin' kids goin' wild! And then there's the helpless feeling of seeing a girl, who maybe spent her last dollar to see us, crying or something, 'cause the cops wouldn't let her stay and get a Beach Boys autograph.
Some of the people I've met since The Beach Boys started have become really special to me. I hope you know what I'm trying to say - it's more than just "thank you." Like I said, you can't really say it all in such a small space.
Maybe I'll get another chance sometime.
MIKE LOVE
Well, I may not be in the family, but being in the Beach Boys has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Recording sessions are a real panic and the life of an entertainer is very fulfilling: two hours of sleep a night and tranquilzers before each meal. I play rhythm guitar and sing various background parts with the fellas. Thnks to everyone for being so good to us.

SURFIN' USA
SIDE ONE SURFIN' U.S.A. FARMER'S DAUGHTER MISIRLOU STOKED LONELY SEA SHUT DOWN SIDE TWO NOBLE SURFER HONKY TONK LANA SURF JAM LET'S GO TRIPPIN' FINDERS KEEPERS * * * * * * * * * * * * * SURF'S UP! HERE COME THE BEACH BOYS NO.1 SURFIN' GROUP IN THE COUTRY!
Here's the group that started the surf-dancing craze all over the countty -- even in places where the nearest thing to surf is maybe the froth on a chocolate shake! The Beach Boys, a brawny, sun-tanned five-some, have been riding the crest of success since their song Surfin' became an overnight rage. Their first Capitol album "SURFIN' SAFARI" made them nationwide symbols for the exhilarating sport that has taken America by storm. And here they are again with another "good set of heavies"* - twelve more rockin', sweet-rollin' tunes just right for surf-dancing, singing-along, or listening, wet or dry. The Beach Boys include the Wilson brothers, Brian, Dennis and Carl, of Hawthorne, California; their cousin Mike Love; and a neighbor, the youngest member of the group, David Marks, 14. Brian is the leader and writes most of the songs. Mike Love is the fine lead singer. Carl is lead guitarist, Dennis sings and plays drums, and young David is no gremlin** - he plays the "toes-on-the-nose"+ rhythm guitar! Produced by NICK VENET
Those not familiar with the wet variety of surfin' might like to know that: *A "good set of heavies" is a run of really big waves . . . the best kind for high-speed riding, and ** a "gremlin" is a beginning surfer. + "Toes-on-the-nose" means riding way up front, standing with the toes right on the nose of the board for maximum speed and thrills.

Last year, when a group of sun-tanned youngsters recorded a song about their favorite sport, they had no idea that the tune was destined to ride a wave of popularity that would rival that of the sport itself. But just like the hair-raising seaside pastime for which it is named, * the song Surfin' became an overnight sensation, and the surprised teenagers who had sung it suddenly found themselves on their way to fame and fortune. Then they did a sequel called Surfin' Safari, and the immediate smash success of this one left little doubt that the Beach Boys had arrived.
The group is mainly comprised of people from Hawthorne, California, named Wilson . . . there's Brian, Dennis, Carl, and their Dad, Murray Wilson, a long-time songwriter who acts as manager for the outfit. Then there's the boys' talented cousin, Mike Love, the composer of Surfin', who sings both the lead tenor and deep bass parts in their un-usual vocal arrangements. The remaining member of the Beach Boys is young David Marks, a neighbor of the Wilsons who plays a driving rhythm guitar.
Brian, the oldest of the Wilson boys, is the group's leader and vocal arranger. Carl is the very accomplished lead guitarist, while brother Dennis sings and plays the drums. None of them, incidentally, had any formal training, but they all grew up in an atmosphere where music was a regular part of their lives. Every one of the boys possesses tremendous natural ability, and each has a fine singing voice as well.
Here, then, in their debut album on Capitol, are the rockin', rollin' kids who have made the biggest splash along the Pacific shores since the sport of surfing was discovered . . . The dynamic Beach Boys!

*For those not familiar with the latest crazed to invade the sun-drenched Pacific coast of Southern California, here is a definition of "Surfing." A water sport, in which the participant stands on a floating slab of wood resembling an ironing board in both size and shape, and attempts to remain perpendicular while being hurtled toward the shore at a rather frightening rate of speed on the crest of a huge wave. (Especially recommended for teen-agers and all others without the slightest regard for either life or limb.)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * It probably isn't much of a surprise to Beach Boy fans that the most popular surfing group in the land has jumped right up to take its palce as the most popular hot-roddin' group too. It began with a song called "Shut Dow," which the boys have taken right up to the top of the best-seller charts. And now, "Little Deuce Coupe" is right up there along with it. And why aren't Beach Boy fans surprised about all this? It's simply because they already know from all those great past hits that the Beach Boys are the greatest. It just doesn't matter whether they're singing about their surfing adventures, or their current road ande track winners, led off here by their two big winners, "Little Deuce Coupe" and "Shut Down". Just listen. You'll get the message!

As I'm writing this, Carl, Ron Swallow (our travelin' buddy and wardrobe man) and three girls along with Earl Leaf are sitting around the coffee table singing Beatle songs. But my mind is somewhere else right now. I'm still working on ideas for this album. We had an unbelievable hassle trying to finish up the songs, especially after a three week tour. You should have seen Mike diggin' his own voice when we played back The Girl From aNew York City in the studio last week. Hew was movin' and groovin' like he used to in the locker room at Dorsey High. I'm glad I finally wrote a song Carl dug singin'. I thought Al pulled off Then I Kissed Her purty good too. And then there's Denny who fell asleep in his camper truck parked outside the studio the day he was supposed to sing a lead. Hope you like our efforts this time. Thanks, BRIAN WILSON
Let me start by saying thank you all for your wonderful support. The new album is one of the best in our catalogue. Hope you agree. We haven't wandered too far from our regular vocal sound but we've experimented with new sounds in our instrumental tracks, ranging from the big beat rhythmic rock to smoother melodies like Summer Means New Love which has a relatively light sound. A few of the songs have a medium beat. The concert turnouts have been tremendous which brings to mind Cincinnati. I enjoyed playing there very much. The audience was overwhelming. The girls there are really the champion cop-dodgers. We're looking forward to coming to all your cities again soon. My brother Brian hasn't been on all the trips because he's been under terrific pressure at times to write, arrange and organize all the sonhgs for our albums and singles, about 60 a year. Thank you all so very much again. CARL WILSON
I love the summertime most because we get around to all the towns and I can meet all the girls. We sang our hearts out for this new album and I hope you;ll flip out for it like we did. I want to thank all the loyal Beach fans for their support - and love. we appreciate it all the way. DENNIS WILSON
The last three years (and 10 or 12 albums) have been the most fun and, at the same time, the most hectic a guy could live. Like with every tour we do we meet more parties, do more things, and lose more sleep than anybody could call normal. we've been to Canada, Europe, Australia and Hawaii (my favorite place) as well as almost the entire United States. We've played to hundreds of thousands of people and loved it. There's only one complaint I have - there's never enought time in any one city to really enjoy it - or maybe worse, it's very seldom we ever have time to talk with and be with someone you know you would like. I'm inclined to ramble on, and I could probably take the whole back of this album myself. But then the other guys might get bugged. Besides that, I have to get to the phone and call Capitol long idstance to give them these words I've written. The other night, while all the other guys were being good and writing their notes at Earl Leaf's house, I sort of "forgot" about this duty and snuck out on a date. If there's any time of year that's great for getting to know and enjoy people, it's summer, and the guys will just have to realize that! MIKE LOVE
Sorry I missed the boat on this album cover. That very day the pictures were taken I had to spend in bed with a flu bug instead of on a yacht with the photographer. You know, recording sessions are a lot of fun. A lot of fun, that is, unless you've just come in off the road from a three week tour of ten states into the arms of our leader Brian. He sets up camp for us in Studio B and we have at it. Well, my muscles don't feel too sore at the end of the day but if you look close at any one of the guys you'll see the strain of our work. Don't expect to see an immaculate Carl or Dennis but look for someone who seems to need a first-aid kit. Pull the hair out of their eyes and you can be it's them. AL JARDINE
